ABOUT

Described as a tightrope walker, Berlin-based artist KOSCHKA combines fragile songwriting with distorted keyboard textures. She made her solo debut in 2018 with the minimalistic single The Flood, followed by Abendstern — her first adaptation of a classical work (Abendstern D 806 by Franz Schubert).

„For nearly seven minutes, the Berlin-based singer-songwriter will leave you in complete awe and in utter paralysis because it is one of the most beautiful things you will hear not today, not tomorrow, not even this week, but this entire year. It is simply extravagantly gorgeous...“ Review THE REVUE (CA)

KOSCHKA – aka Edita Karkoschka – is a singer, composer, and producer based between Berlin and Brittany. Though not classically trained, she reinterprets classical compositions with remarkable intuition, shaping them into a bold, contemporary vision.

Born in Poland and raised in Germany from the age of two, KOSCHKA feels most at home as a European artist — moving freely between languages, places, and musical traditions. After studying, living, and working in the Netherlands for ten years, she returned to Berlin in 2015, drawn by a renewed longing for, and the desire to rediscover and make the German language her own. In 2020, she fully committed to her solo project, embracing a creative process rooted in spontaneity and raw emotion. Around that time, she began exploring old German songs from the Romantic era.

Her self-produced debut album KOSCHKA was released on March 29, 2024, via Berlin label St. Vladimir.
Since 2025, she has been signed with international publishing agency WiseMusic/Bosworth, joining a roster that includes composers and artists as Hania Rani, Hauschka or Sofi Paez.

The album, recorded and mixed by Markus Abendroth and Peter Thomas in Berlin and mastered in New York by Grammy-winning engineers Emily Lazar and Chris Allgood (David Bowie, among others), presents a curated selection of original works alongside striking reinterpretations of German Romantic-era compositions by the likes of Franz Schubert and Clara Schumann. Contributions from Berlin-based musicians — including co-producer and synth player Anneli Bentler, the band The Still, and French pianist Romain Bertheau — enrich the album’s distinctive sonic texture.

KOSCHKA’s artistic path has long intertwined songwriting with interdisciplinary collaboration. From 2009 to 2019, she was lead singer and co-songwriter of Nausica, collaborating with booking agencies such as Toutpartout (BE), Friendly Fire (NL), and PopUp Records (DE). With NAUSICA, she toured extensively across Europe and played support shows for artists like Son Lux and Poliça. Between 2011 and 2014, she fronted the music collective Cast Glass (led by composer Marco Mlynek), which was the only German act featured at the renowned Dutch festival Cross-Linx, sharing the stage with international artists such as My Brightest Diamond and José Gonzales. In 2012, she joined forces with video artist Krista Burger to form the live cinema duo Koschka & Heimprofi — a project that would lay the groundwork for her later solo work. Since then, she has performed at over 100 concerts and art events across Europe. Beyond her own releases, she composes and performs for installations, theatre, and performance art — with commissions from institutions including Bauhaus Dessau.

„What an absolutely stunning find we have for you today. KOSCHKA’s “The Flood” is an absolutely exquisite piece of music from start to finish. Get ready to be mesmerised. Despite being over 6 minutes long, this really is a track that just keep on giving. It was recorded in one take and combines KOSCHKA’s love of experimental and classical music wonderfully. It’s dark, it’s brooding, its emotional. KOSCHKA’s powerful vibrato soars beautifully over the captivating piano-pop melodies, creating something both haunting and dreamy. It’s clear to see that KOSCHKA is a fan of PJ Harvey with this track, but her love of classical composers also comes through, making this track wholly unique in a world of modern electronic sounds.“

Sountrack Of My Life

"Your voice has a haunting quality. It is very recognizable and reminds me of the great 80s Icon Desireless as well as the British singer and songwriter Tracey Thorn from Everything But The Girl. You also reference PJ Harvey. This is not a real question more a declaration of love to your tone and the soulful vibrance you ooze. .."
NBHAP

"...In den dicht gedrängten Besucherreihen ist es mucksmäuschenstill, wenn Koschka mit leisen Klaviertönen zu neuen Songs ansetzt oder mit getragener Stimme intoniert. Sie spielt einige Stücke am Keyboard, einige am Flügel,... Es ist die geballte Portion Melancholie, die Koschka hier auf die Bühne bringt..."

„…KOSCHKA’s ‘The Flood’ is not just a single, its a work of art. It draws you in instantly with its irregularities and majestic qualities in a way a piece of art can as soon as you enter a room…Like that isn’t enough, there’s also an incredibly captivating video to coincide with the single, which definitely deserves appreciation from both the music and art world alike…“

„German frontwoman gets dark and atmospheric on this mood-driven serenade, with nods to Cat Power.“
